THE POST-PILL GLOW OR THE POST-PILL SHIT SHOW?

Everyone talks about how good you will feel when you finally come off hormonal contraception.
How you will finally feel happy, stable and like you have your body and personality back.
You really get sold into that “Post-Pill Glow”.

But when I decided to come off the pill because it was making me clinically depressed, anxious and numb, I was deeply disappointed by the absence of my own post-pill glow.

My post-pill experience would more accurately be described as a total “Post-Pill Shit Show”.

Within 12 months of coming off the pill I had…

🥴 Gained 12kgs
🥴 Got acne for the first time in my life
🥴 Grew hair in places I didn’t know a female could grow hair
🥴 Felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster
🥴 And kept the local pharmacy in business by how many pregnancy tests I took that year because I still hadn’t gotten a period.

I well and truly thought I was going through a full blown adult puberty.

And despite ALL of these crazy physical symptoms I had, the worst thing about this time in my life was the utter disgust I felt towards my body.

🥦 I fed it only clean and nourishing foods.
💧I kept it hydrated.
🏃‍♀️I moved it everyday.
🧘‍♀️I meditated.

I gave it everything it needed and yet this is how it repaid me?!

I thought I was doing all the right things. I thought I was healthy.

So why when I looked in the mirror did I see a body that looked anything but healthy?

This my friends, is what I call not only a Post-Pill Shit Show but a Hormonal Shit Show.

And the more women I work with, the more I realize just how common this Shit Show has become.

SPICING UP LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIPS AND WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR HEALTH🔥

I shared on my stories this morning about how Wally and I will often organise “surprise dates” for eachother.

Whether I’m the one organising the date or I am on the receiving end, it gets me all giddy and excited like a little girl🥰.
It’s honestly one of my favourite parts of our relationship because it keeps things so fun and fresh.

And it got me thinking….

The long-term relationship that you have with your body is no different to any other long-term relationship, it’s not immune to becoming stale, boring or serious.

Like any long-term relationship, love, excitement and passion aren’t just guaranteed to be there.

It is a CONSCIOUS CHOICE!

And like the conscious choice we make to love our long-term partners everyday, we also have to choose this for our bodies and our health.

The way these surprise dates inject so much FUN and EXCITEMENT into my relationship with Wally, can also be applied to how you relate to your body.

So I ask you this…

What currently feels stale or serious in your relationship with your body right now?

It could be…
😵 Your exercise routine
😵 Eating the same meals all the time
😵 Wearing the same old clothes
😵 Having the same hairstyle
😵 Listening to the same meditation
😵 Sleeping in the same sheets and pyjamas
😵 Using the same old cheap and chemical ridden cosmetic products you’ve had since highschool

Could you…
🔥 Trial a new gym
🔥 Swap your gym class for a dance class
🔥 Go for a run/walk along the beach or in a mountain range
🔥 Cook 1 new recipe a week
🔥 Buy a cookbook
🔥 Play some bangers while you cook
🔥 Try a new cafe
🔥 Buy/sell/swap for a new clothing piece that excites you
🔥 Change up your hairdo
🔥 Do a guided breathwork instead of your meditation
🔥 Get new linen sheets, a silk eye-mask or a pillow spray
🔥 Invest in a clean beauty product that you’ve been dying to try

There are SO many ways to spice things up and make being healthy FUN and EXCITING!

Our meaning of health is evolving…

Health has always been a priority for me.
But what health meant to me 10 years ago, is certainly not what health means to me now.

I grew up watching “health influencers” like @sarahs_day and @georgiestevenson .

I felt so much of their journey was mine.

The skin issues, the hormone issues, the “shreds” and the idea of health being attached to how I physically looked.

And if you follow these special ladies, you would have witnessed how their “health” content evolved too.

There came a point where it was no longer about the green smoothies, the rigid exercise routines and the attainment of the “perfect” physique.

It was about FEELING good.

And that meant...
✨ Loving and appreciating their bodies as they were
✨ Enjoying food freedom and eating intuitively
✨ Having healthy relationships
✨ Having an 'identity' outside of being "the fit & healthy girl"
✨ Following the work that lit them up.

And that’s why I still follow these accounts. Because as my perception of health evolved, so did theirs.

I know for a fact it is not just me or these accounts that have felt this ‘awakening’ in the health space.

Women are craving MORE than superficial health and girl,

I 👏 AM 👏 HERE 👏 FOR 👏 IT.

Do you ever feel like your body & health (or lack

Do you ever feel like your body & health (or lack of) is a burden?

I use to hate the fact that I was “the sensitive” one in the family.
“Why are you the only one that can’t eat that?”
“Why are you the only one that can’t handle working those hours?”
“Why are you the only one with all of these health issues?”

Whether it was the food I ate, the hours I worked, the aircon at a hotel, the lack of sleep, the cleaning products that were used or the cosmetic products I reacted to…I just always felt like things affected my health SO much more than the people around me.

And at times it made me feel like…

An inconvenience
A hypochondriac
A “softie”
A drama queen
A down right crazy person.

And I hated this about myself and it led to a toxic relationship with my body.

BUT that’s not how I feel today and it’s certainly not how you have to feel either.

The truth is...

My sensitive body has actually become one of my FAVOURITE things about myself AND I honestly think it’s changed my life for the BETTER.

And here's why...

Because my energy and my hormones have always been such sensitive little souls, I’ve made changes in my life that some people won’t make for decades, if at all.

💙 I’ve had to learn how to deeply look after my body and because of this I’ve been able to access a level of aliveness that I’m sure many people wouldn’t even know existed.

💙 I’ve had to gain a deep understanding, trust and appreciation for the workings of my body. The relationship with your body is one of the most important relationships in your life, yet most people will never really work on it. And like the saying goes, the quality of your relationships will determine the quality of your life.

💙 I’ve had to get super selective with my energy. I’ve created a business and work schedule that A.actually lights me up and B.doesn’t look like your typical biz. Again most people go through life working like everyone else and never stopping to ask themselves how they actually want to work and what would feel good to them.

So if you've ever felt like your body is a burden, could you just for a moment believe in the possibility that it might just be your greatest blessing?
